The Italian motorcycle manufacturers – Benelli is one of the oldest motorcycle company in the world and initialy it was a Chinese company which afterwards taken by Italian company. The company has launched DSK Benelli TNT 300 in way back 2014. The bike is also known as BN 302 around the world where they are already on sale. For Indian market, Benelli has tied up with DSK motowheels and chosen to change the name to TNT 300. Along with TNT 300, DSK Benelli has also introduced 4 other bikes in India, which are Benelli TNT 600 i, TNT 600 GT, TNT 899 and TNT 1130 R, where TNT stands for ‘Tornado Naked Tre’. The Benelli TNT 300 is one of the most affordable motorcycle from Benelli which comes with a price tag of Rs. 2.83 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Design and Styling
DSK Benelli TNT 300 comes with an excellent design and looks great with its colour combination and a red coloured Trellis frame. The styling is not like a sport bike but still it is a mix of street-fighter look with a modern touch. The TNT 300 has some new and exciting features like upside down front forks, Pirelli rubber, daytime running light equipped headlight, multi thin spoke alloy wheels, LED indicators, leaf shaped mirrors, single seat with red stitching, double front wave discs, underbelly exhaust, offset rear monoshock and LED tail light with a crystal effect.
Wit the big V-shaped headlamps and the windscreen, DSK Benelli TNT 300 looks like a robot. The fuel tank is properly shaped and cut out to knee recesses to provides a smooth grip to the rider. The arrow head is starting from the front of the tank to make it look bigger and it also gives a feeling of riding a bigger bike. The wide seat, a tall handle bars, an extended wheelbase of 1410 mm and a 795 mm of seat height provides a smooth and comfortable riding experience to the rider. The underbelly exhaust is bit similar to the one seen in the Kawasaki’s ER-6N.
Instrument Cluster and Switchgear
Like in all other Benelli bikes, the DSK TNT 300 also has a flip to open key, which is one of the coolest key in any motorcycles. Its instrument cluster has an analogue digital unit, which is similar to its other Benelli bikes but in TNT 300 the font and the design of the tachometer feels a bit outdated. The four important trip, fuel, odo and temperature meters are right there along with a clock but there is only one trip meter which is quite disappointing. There are two buttons, the left one is for switching between odometer and tripmeter, while the right one is for switching the reading between kms and miles.
The tale lights are placed on the left along with the usual high beam, engine warning icons, neutral and fuel injection (FI). Solitary indicator display is on the top on both side. The switch gear quality is also good along with an hazard light button. The instrument panel consist of tachometer, odometer, trip meter, analogue, fuel gauge and digital speedometer which looks perfect along with the white background on the tachometer and a red needle makes it look more attractive.
DSK Benelli TNT 300’s riding position is isn’t totally upright but a bit forward bend which makes it more smooth and comfortable even for a long rides. The seats are soft and comes with the pillion seat. The pegs are set at the rear end and the seat height makes it quite suitable for both short and tall riders. The DSK TNT 300 comes with a superb palm grips and with an adjustable brake lever. The bike’s stand has got an extension on it which makes it quite easy to engage and dis-engage the stand with ease.
Engine and Performance
While turning on the DSK Benelli TNT 300, the tachometer first goes all the way to 14,000 rpm and comes back while the screen displays the text “300”. After that you can hear the sound of an 300 cc, parallel-twin engine which can produces a peak power of 38.26 bhp along with a maximum torque of 26.5 Nm. The DSK TNT 300 has two O2 sensors, two 38 mm throttle bodies and two catalytic converters. In traffic, the TNT 300 didn’t even produce any kind of heat whatsoever from the engine even when you crawl. While riding in city area, the rider doesn’t have to work hard on the gearbox. The first three gears on TNT 300 are quite tall while higher up, it is shorter.
The first gear of DSK Benelli TNT 300 will takes you to around 60 km/hr, second takes you to 90 km/hr and in third gear, you will not only cross the 100 km/h mark but it will take you to a top strike of 114 km/hr. The bike takes around 8.19 seconds to reach from 0 to 100 km/h mark. There is some whispering sound coming on the TNT 300’s pegs at high revs but the sound is not on the handlebars. The DSK TNT 300 has got the best sounding twin-cylinder engine that sounds really good and its 2x2x1 exhaust sound is so pure that it sounds like a four cylinder bike. The bike’s sound is so loud that everyone near to you will turns back to see what’s coming. The DSK TNT 300 provides a mileage of around 28 km/liters and which can be improve by keeping the fuel tank full. The six speed gearbox transmission supports clutchless upshifts and the transmission is very precise with shifts.
DSK Benelli TNT 300 is powered by a 300cc, 4-stroke, 8-valve, liquid cooled, two-cylinder, DOHC engine which produces a maximum power of 37.73 Bhp at 11,500 rpm and a peak torque of 26.5 Nm at 10,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a six speed transmission and a wet clutch. It uses the electronic injection with twin 38 mm throttle bodies. The TNT 300’s dimensions measures as length of 2130 mm, width of 800 mm and a height of 1120 mm along with a wet or kerb weight of 185 Kgs. It contains a fuel tank capacity of 16 litres which will surly woes not disappoint you on a long rides.
Riding and Handling
With top quality of hardware on offer, DSK Benelli TNT 300 has to be a dynamically rich but one thing which looks bit worrying is its 196 kgs of weight. However, the weight isn’t felt on the road, this Benelli provides a good handling and an eagerness to turn around corners with surefooted composure. But there is a small problem as the ground clearance is good enough to not to scratch this bike’s underbelly anywhere, the exhaust touches the ground when you lean too far out on a right corner.
DSK Benelli TNT 300 has dual discs on its both front and rear end and the braking performance are quite good on both ends, the rear is bit powerful too. The bike comes with steel braided brake lines but ABS is not available, at least in near future.
